INFOTOX | GHS Classification and SDS Compilation for Chemical Products According to SANS 10234:2008

INFOTOX (Pty) Ltd has specialist experience in the classification of materials and products according to the Globally Harmonized System (GHS) of classification and labelling of chemicals as represented in South African National Standard SANS 10234:2008. The complexity of the GHS classification system demands an in-depth understanding of chemistry, biochemistry and toxicology applied to human health and the aquatic environment. The GHS requires rigorous assessment of health endpoints, amongst others, irritant and corrosive properties, acute and chronic human health effects, mutagenicity, carcinogenicity and reproductive effects. These assessments must account for additivity of hazards to the same target organs or systems.

Hazards to aquatic ecosystems are assessed with regard to acute and chronic exposure, bioaccumulation and persistence in the environment, with the application of stipulated modifying factors (M-factors). Mixtures of chemicals are assessed using the bridging principles prescribed in the GHS.

High quality SDSs for product registrations are compiled by INFOTOX, using the multidisciplinary qualifications and experience of staff members. The SDS is compiled based on the GHS classification and the hazard and precautionary statements prescribed in SANS 10234:2008.
